The Funktion Hi Ken, It has been a blissful whirlwind of a few weeks, but we are finally back to reality and catching up on life, emails, etc. We want to thank you and everyone else in The Funktion for truly making our wedding PHENOMENAL. You surpassed all of our expectations!! Starting with your rendition of U2's "All I Want is You" for our first dance, which Ross and I continue to talk about because it was (I can't believe I'm saying this...) BETTER tha n the original, you continued to nail every song throughout the night. Other highlights were Sledgehammer, I Wanna Dance with Somebody , and of course, Shut Up and Dance. Honestly, every song was fabulous, and the entire band had an energetic, fun-filled, entertaining presence. There was never a dull moment, and the dance floor was packed all night. We are still hearing comments from guests about how awesome you were, and many have asked for your contact info for their future events. Ken, we can't thank you

OK- We have been there and have seen it all. More small tips for a great reception or party DON’T:  Call for group photos when the dance floor is packed: When your photographer decides to take group shots when the dance floor is rockin’, either 1/2 the dance floor goes outside to take the picture, or the bandleader has to clear the dance floor to do these shots. This kills the momentum of the party. DO:  Try having the photographer do group shots during background music time. The bandleader will be happy to coordinate this with your photographer. DON’T:   No dance music during the meal: Quite often, the caterer or venue asks the band to stop the dancing and get everyone seated for dinner, and then does not bring out food for 10 or 15 minutes. We know the importance of having everyone seated to enjoy the main course while it is hot. However, we are  very skilled at taking the cue from watching the servers, and will automatically slow the music down once service really beg

I have had the pleasure of hiring Ken and his band for our Fundraiser which brings a crowd of 2000+ people. Our donors LOVED them. The music was diverse and the sound incredible. I came across this post today and it is appauling.  " we met with the booking agent for .... Orchestras in their lovely Upper West Side offices. the  schtick is that all the bands are led by female bandleaders. cute, no? although the two principals of the ( -named group - ) were booked for our date (at their going rate of about $28K per wedding), there were two orchestras still available:  (just under $20K). both singers were very talented in their genre, but we felt that when confronted with hip-hop or rock, their interpretations left something to be desired. for some reason all the Starlight bands evoked the  Sweeney Sisters from Saturday Night Live" 2010      I dont discredit anyone for making the money, but this is robbery with a smile and this is a warning to brides and grooms that this is foolery.
