Day of Wedding Tips – Amy Vecchionne of Aventina Events
You've planned for months (or years). Here are some tips to help you actually enjoy your wedding day:
- HIRE A DAY-OF-WEDDING COORDINATOR - Whether you've already hired an event planner or have planned every detail yourself, let go of the details on your wedding day and leave it in the hands of a professional. Or, enlist or a reliable friend or relative to be responsible for making sure things happen as planned and on schedule. This will free you up to focus on enjoying your day rather than what needs to happen next. One of the biggest regrets for many brides is that they didn't think they needed a "day-of" wedding planner - - until the day of their wedding.
- BE SURE TO EAT - Start the day with a good breakfast. And make time to have some of that wonderful food that you so carefully chose for your reception. So many couples leave their weddings starving because they didn't have time to eat anything and end up picking up fast food for their wedding night dinner.
- DON'T DRINK TOO MUCH - Alcohol will be flowing all day, before and during the reception. Be careful, it can be difficult to keep track of how many drinks you have. Nerves and an empty stomach can magnify the effects of alcohol. This is not a day for getting drunk - and you want to be able to remember every detail of your wedding day.
- WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES - Wear those stylish stilettos for the ceremony if you like, but bring comfortable shoes to slip on later when you want to hit the dance floor. You will be on your feet for 6 hours or more - you don't want to suffer through your wedding with the agony of sore feet.
- SPECIAL TIME TOGETHER - Find some time to spend alone together at some point during the day. Consider a "first look" prior to the ceremony - you can talk, hug, see each other properly without everyone watching you both. Many couples say this was their most cherished and only private moment of the day. Then you can take your bridal party photos prior to the ceremony while your makeup is fresh. This will also give you the opportunity to attend your cocktail hour and spend more time mingling with friends and family.
- ENJOY - Be sure to step back and take it all in. Stop and take a deep breath every once in a while and take a look around the room. Look at the beautiful décor, eat the delicious food, listen to the amazing music and feel the love from all the people who have gathered to help you celebrate your special day. You a great job - enjoy this beautiful day that you planned!
